Coming this Saturday Afternoon at The Depot The Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York State!
Last year we introduced the first “Shortest St. Patty’s Day Parade in New York State” (outdoors that is because a New York City bar claims a shorter indoor parade). This year our parade will follow the same 255 foot route from The Depot to Bourbon Street Bar & Grill, with Planet Pizza and Spill the Beans as the staging area prior to the 2:00 P.M. start.
The parade was such a great hit in its first year that it has been considerably expanded this year. Leading the procession will be a professional piper – Jim Kelly from the Ancient Order of the Hibernains, joined by Grand Marshall “Cadillac Pat” in a return engagement from last year, plus Village Mayor Jim Purcell and United Monroe Chief Emily Convers.
Even though the parade will follow last year’s route, this year it is being sponsored by the Village of Monroe joined by the Greater Monroe Chamber of Commerce. Village officials will also be in attendance as well as “Irish Ambassador” Mike Devine and representatives of ShortLine Bus Company.
Those who do not wish to march on an empty stomach may purchase breakfasts and lunches at the various restaurants in the staging area, but for those who work up an appetite during the parade, Bourbon Street will once again be selling corned
beef and cabbage (as well as Irish beer of course).
Most important, cigars may be smoked in Bourbon Street’s outdoor seating area. Kenny Batewell, a parade organizer, recommends a relatively new cigar offering at The Depot – the Gurkha Ancient Warrior, probably because of its Irish connotation; however, our chief tobacconist David Schulman is pushing the seasonal Punch Corojo with its Ecuadorian red wrapper, and Assistant Tobacconist Kathy Batewell is pushing our new Comachos (maybe just to spite both David and her husband).
